Van Hoven PC is Seeking a Patent Agent/Patent Attorney.
You didn’t become an engineer, and then a lawyer, to do commodity work. Neither did we.
Every attorney at VHIP started their career on an engineering team and brought their technical depth to the practice of law. We’re a small team. Every person on it is sharp, and clients feel the difference. If you want to do the most sophisticated work of your career at a pace that doesn’t burn you out, keep reading.
We’re looking for a patent prosecution professional, registered patent agent or patent attorney, ready to own a portfolio of electrical and computer technology matters from invention disclosure through issuance. You won’t be buried in a drafting queue waiting your turn. You’ll work directly with Partners and clients, build real technical strategy, and file patents that are built to do something.
This is a full-time, permanent position based in Michigan; however, remote work may be considered for the right candidate.
Duties Include:
• Draft and prosecute utility patent applications in electrical engineering and computer science/software fields
• Counsel clients directly on patent strategy, portfolio development, and freedom-to-operate considerations
• Respond to office actions and interact with USPTO examiners
• Collaborate with inventors and in-house technical teams to translate innovations into strong applications
Qualification Required:
Registered to practice before the USPTO (patent bar) as either a patent agent or a patent attorney, required
• If applying as an attorney, J.D. and active admission to at least one state bar
• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Physics with significant software experience, required
• Minimum 3 years of patent prosecution experience; 6-8 years preferred
• Strong technical writing and client communication skills
If you want to do the most sophisticated prosecution work of your career, and skip the pyramid of billable-hour paperwork, let’s talk.
Experience:
3+ yrs min. / 6-8 yrs preferred
Salary Range:
$100,000 – $250,000
Interested Candidates:
Interested candidates are asked to send a resume, cover letter, two writing samples, and references to recruiting@vhiplaw.com
Please mention you found the position on the IPWatchdog JobOrtunities™ Job Board.
