Leason Ellis, Boutique IP Law Leader, Promotes Jordan Garner and Lauren Emerson

New Partner Promotions Continue The Expansion Of The All-Star Team’s Capabilities

Lauren Emerson joined Leason Ellis in 2017 as Counsel. Over the last two years at Leason Ellis, Lauren has become an integral part of our clients’ success and an emerging leader on the Firm’s bench of powerhouse lawyers. Peter Sloane, Chair of the Trademark and Copyright Practice Group at Leason Ellis, said “Lauren’s legal talent, work ethic, client service, and collegiality embody who we are as a firm. I’m proud to call her my new partner.”

Lauren’s practice focuses primarily on issues related to copyright, trademark, trade dress, and unfair competition. She counsels clients in industries that include apparel, jewelry, software, architecture, payment technology, automotive technology, toys, sporting goods, pharmaceuticals, publishing, electronics, food and beverage, and consumer products.

“Working with a diverse array of clients from around the world on a never-ending supply of complex legal issues keeps my practice engaging and rewarding,” she said, adding that “Leason Ellis provides an excellent platform for this type of work. The firm is relatively young and is constantly looking at ways to do things better.”

Lauren has also emerged as a sought after legal advisor for intellectual property issues that confront the highly competitive genre of romance novels. “There are lots of interesting ways authors look to scale and monetize their stories and ideas. It’s a creatively rich industry, one I’m passionate about.”

Before coming to Leason Ellis, Lauren was a Senior Associate at Baker Botts LLP in Manhattan. Lauren’s big-law experience provided her with the opportunity to serve huge Fortune 500 companies and manage global IP portfolios. Her professional career began in brand management working for Pokémon USA, where she gained hands-on experience developing product brand strategies and managing large licensing programs. In addition, Lauren has held leadership positions with AIPLA, NYIPLA and INTA.

Lauren holds degrees from Dartmouth College (B.A., Japanese Language & Literature) and Fordham University School of Law (J.D., 2007), and is admitted to practice law in New York and New Jersey

Jordan Garner joined Leason Ellis in 2010 as an Associate. His practice includes patent prosecution and litigation services in fields as diverse as consumer products, industrial refinery processes, textile technologies, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, electro-mechanic devices, and genetic engineering.

“We are proud to acknowledge Jordan’s accomplishments as he has proven his worth to our firm many times over,” said David Leason, Managing Partner at Leason Ellis. David explained: “Jordan’s winning personality, legal acumen, practical approach and strategic mindset benefit our firm as much as our clients. We are excited to support his continued success as a new partner of our firm.”

“As is our practice at Leason Ellis, I work closely with inventors, technical personnel, and management to ensure that all aspects, features, and details of an invention are faithfully captured and represented in the patent applications we prepare and file. My background in bio-informatics is invaluable in helping to apprehend massive computational data sets, find the story, and help inventors protect their life’s work,” Jordan said.

Jordan also has deep experience handling a wide range of intellectual property issues involving due diligence, trade secret misappropriations and copyright claims. On these matters, Jordan has distinguished himself as an attorney who starts with ‘why,’ adroitly interrogates the law with regard to desired outcomes, and guides his clients’ to insights and strategies they can act upon.

“There’s an emphasis on giving advice that’s practical and commercially driven. Options are grounded in reality, rather than couched in “perfect world” scenarios. It’s about not simply accepting that cookie-cutter best practices are the way to go, but to embrace the opportunity to be a true strategic business partner. I’m here to help make my clients’ business decisions effective in the real world.”

Prior to Leason Ellis, Jordan held attorney positions at Darby & Darby and Morgan & Finnegan where he worked on patent prosecution and patent litigation matters. While in law school, Jordan was a Judicial Intern for the Honorable Randall Rader of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Jordan holds degrees from Cornell University (B.A., Science & Technology Studies), Brooklyn Law School (J.D., 2005) and Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law (L.L.M., IP Law), and is admitted to practice law in New York and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
