Juristat Releases Top Patent Firms, 2025 Edition

New Honors Built for How Patent Work Is Done Today

New Haven, CT, February 2, 2026: Juristat today announced the 2025 edition of Top Patent Firms, rebuilt to reflect the way patent practices operate now—lean budgets, data-driven buying, and panels organized by industry. No composites. No pay-to-play. Just data you can defend.

“Clients buy outcomes, not volume,” said Francesca Cruz, Senior Vice President of IP Solutions at Juristat. “We focused this edition on metrics and views that bolster RFPs and bullet-proof BD decks—fair comparisons and results you can cite.”

What’s new this year

  • Independent metric honors: Normalized Allowance Rate, Normalized Time to Allowance, Normalized OAs to Allowance, Time to Response after OA, and Extensions.
  • Industry leaders: Apples-to-apples views for sectors including Automotive, Biotech, Semiconductors, Medical Devices, Telecom, and more, matching how in-house teams work.
  • Top Outside Counsel: Recognition for the firms top companies hire at the USPTO.
  • Innovative Leader: A new distinction honoring firms embracing technology and modern workflows to move the profession forward.

Broader, not looser recognition

This year, more than 600 firms appear across categories, up from ~100 under the prior tech-center model. The increase comes from a sharper lens: metric-specific honors and CPC-based industry views that surface distinct strengths. We’re welcoming more qualified firms into view.

The result is a more balanced cohort by size, with this year’s firm makeup being:

  • 29.7% large firms
  • 21.8% medium firms, and
  • 5% small firms

Versus last year’s firm makeup of:

  • 70% large firms
  • 17% medium firms, and
  • 13% small firms

More specialists are visible because the categories are more precise.

Data-first, no pay-to-play, since 2016

Juristat’s Top Patent Firms is one of the few legal honors grounded entirely in USPTO outcomes. No call for entry. No fees. Just observable performance.

We’ve published this program every year since 2016, refining categories and methods as patent practice evolves. Each edition includes transparent method tags, clear-cut dates, minimum sample sizes, and a frozen dataset you can cite.
