Jennifer Rynell is a Partner at Wilson Legal Group P.C. (dba Wilson Whitaker Rynell), a leading Texas law firm focused on intellectual property litigation, patent law, trademark protection, copyright enforcement, and commercial disputes. With more than 20 years of experience as a Dallas IP attorney and Texas commercial litigation lawyer, Rynell has built a strong reputation for guiding businesses and individuals through high-stakes patent infringement cases, trademark disputes, copyright litigation, and complex conflicts in federal courts across the United States. Based in the firm’s Dallas office, she delivers strategic, results-driven representation to innovative companies, entrepreneurs, and organizations in technology, software, energy, and consumer products sectors.
Rynell’s practice emphasizes intellectual property matters nationwide, including key venues in Texas, California, Michigan, Illinois, and beyond. She excels in patent litigation, trademark enforcement and defense, copyright protection and disputes, and related appellate proceedings before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Her commercial litigation expertise covers contract disputes, shareholder derivative actions, trade secret misappropriation, and business negotiations. Rynell has facilitated mergers and acquisitions of multimillion-dollar IP portfolios, drafted and negotiated complex agreements, advised on employment contracts for both employers and employees, licensing deals, and dispute resolution strategies. She also represents many individuals and small businesses relating to a variety of legal issues and needs, including navigating highly sensitive situations with great professionalism.
A constant throughout all the years of her practice has been Rynell’s focus on the best interests of her clients. She is tireless when it comes to protecting her clients ethically and effectively, and has been called a “fierce” litigator. And while litigation is sometimes unavoidable,
Rynell has often come up with creative solutions to resolve matters for her clients without the necessity of going to court. Rynell believes in the importance of understanding her clients’ perspectives and goals from day one and as a matter evolves and, critically, keeping them well informed every step of the way.
Before joining Wilson Whitaker Rynell, Rynell refined her skills at prominent firms, including Bickel & Brewer and Shore Chan DePumpo LLP. Her early career involved intricate commercial litigation spanning general business, hospitality, insurance, and environmental matters, providing a solid foundation in both Texas state courts and federal forums. This breadth of experience positions her as a go-to Dallas litigation attorney for clients facing multifaceted legal challenges in Texas and federal courts.
Among her notable representation highlights, Rynell has achieved favorable outcomes in high-profile cases such as Pisony v. McLeod (2017), Decapolis Systems, LLC v. Wise Health Services (2021), Buzzballz, LLC v. Buzzbox Beverages, Inc. (2014), and Universal City Studios Productions LLLP et al. v. Dwayne Anthony Johnson et al. (2021). She has secured a favorable claim construction in patent litigation leading to a stipulation of infringement by a direct competitor, obtained injunctions in the context of numerous business divorce cases to protect the rights of business owners, represented clients before the International Trade Commission (achieving a 2020 investigation dismissal), obtained injunctions against image misappropriation, managed copyright and trademark cases in federal court, and assisted with patent prosecutions that overcame USPTO rejections.
Recognized as a Super Lawyers Rising Star in Intellectual Property Litigation by Texas Monthly magazine for seven consecutive years (2009–2015), Rynell is admitted to practice in Texas and New York, as well as numerous federal courts, including all Texas districts, the Eastern District of Michigan, Fifth Circuit, Ninth Circuit, and Federal Circuit. Her thought leadership is evident in speaking engagements, such as her panel on e-discovery trends at the American Intellectual Property Law Association’s 2013 Spring Meeting in Seattle.
“I am passionate about partnering with clients to advance their businesses, protect their innovations, and resolve disputes with precision and efficiency,” said Rynell. “At Wilson Whitaker Rynell, we work collaboratively, combining our wide-ranging legal expertise with practical business advice to achieve results for our clients. Sometimes that happens through aggressive litigation, strategic out-of-court settlements, or proactive IP portfolio management.”
Rynell earned her J.D. from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law in 2001 and her B.A., cum laude, from the same institution in 1998.
