Joan Archer is General Counsel at AGI Digital, an 8+ year old technology startup applying what she’s learned in her 20+ years of practice. Her approach is to serve as a trusted business advisor to company leadership, proactively addressing risk management in a practical, balanced fashion. As the company’s first GC, Joan provides legal counsel on a wide range of issues, such as global data privacy and protection, protection of intellectual property, contract negotiation and drafting, labor and employment issues, insurance, and marketing materials review, among other things.

Prior to joining AGI Digital, Joan was a partner in Husch Blackwell LLP’s Kansas City office. Well-known for her legal accomplishments in food and agribusiness, while in private practice, she counseled clients on intellectual property and licensing matters, food safety regulations, and data privacy.  She also was also seasoned intellectual property and commercial trial attorney, acting as first chair trial attorney who tried, managed and and won a diverse range of multimillion-dollar bet the company cases in the US and other countries, including complex IP, breach of contract, covenant not to compete and product liability cases. She also served as an outside general counsel to several tech companies. In private practice, Joan also handled IP portfolio management and licensing.

Joan has repeatedly been recognized by Super Lawyers in the area of intellectual property litigation and has been named one of the top 50 female attorneys in Kansas and Missouri and top 100 attorneys in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Joan is involved in a leadership role with the American Bar Association’s Section of Litigation.

A tireless advocate for farmers’ data rights, Joan is a frequent speaker at AgTech conferences.
