Blair Hoyt

Blair Hoyt is a Principal at Harness IP with over 20 years of experience in the patent field, representing some of the world’s largest and most innovative companies. His practice centers on building and managing large, highvalue patent portfolios through the preparation of highquality, strategically focused patent applications. Blair has drafted and prosecuted patents across a wide range of technologies, including medical imaging (CT, MRI, PET), inverter control, wireless and wired communications, display drive technologies, electric vehicle technologies, and agricultural innovations.

Beyond portfolio development, Blair has extensive experience advising clients on risk and strategy. His counseling work includes freedom to operate assessments, due diligence reviews, litigation support, M&A related IP analysis, portfolio audits, and general strategic advisory services.

Blair has served as Chair of the firm’s USPTO Practice Committee for the past seven years, where he leads the development of firmwide procedures and best practices for United States Patent and Trademark Office practice. He also serves on the Loss Prevention Committee and the Professional Development Committee, contributing to firm strategy, attorney training, and risk management. Blair is admitted to practice in Virginia, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the Supreme Court of the United States, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is a graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in Electrical Engineering and a graduate of Antonin Scalia Law School (George Mason University).
