Andrew “A.J.” Sutton is Managing Intellectual Property Counsel and Prosecution Part Leader for the NA IP Team at LG Energy Solution (LGES), an industry leading lithium-ion battery manufacturing company headquartered in Seoul, South Korea. He and his team are responsible for managing LGES’s U.S. IP assets, including prosecuting patents and trademarks for LGES’s subsidiaries in  the U.S. His particular technical areas include renewable energy Electric Storage Systems (ESS), software based Battery Management Systems (BMS), Electric Vehicle (EV) battery packs and modules, manufacturing processes, and solid state batteries.  He also assists the Chief IP Counsel for North America with all facets of U.S. IP law, including providing strategic advice on licensing, litigation, open source, and other IP-related issues.  A.J. was previously an in-house patent corporate counsel with Salesforce/Slack and a patent attorney at Bookoff McAndrews PLLC. Before focusing on patent prosecution, A.J. spent five years as an IP litigation associate at Ropes & Gray LLP, where much of his work focused on representing both patent owners and petitioners before the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board. A.J. obtained his degree in Mechanical Engineering from UC San Diego and his J.D. from The George Washington University Law School in Washington D.C.
