Michael J. Schallop is a partner at Van Pelt, Yi & James LLP. He counsels investors and startups on IP strategy and patent portfolios, with a focus on deep-tech including quantum technologies, cryptography, and cybersecurity. He is also an Adjunct Lecturer at UC Berkeley School of Law here he teaches patent prosecution and technology law & policy courses, serves as a member of the Berkeley Center for Law & Technology (BCLT) Patent Advisory Board, and coaches Berkeley Law’s National Patent Application Drafting Competition (NPADC) teams, which placed first nationally in 2021 and 2026 and second in 2024.
