Justin Watts

Justin is a partner and patent litigator of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.  He handles complex, multinational disputes in pharmaceuticals, medical devices, biotech, communications and computers, often involving interaction between standards, competition law and patents. Outside of patent litigation, he handles a full range of IP litigation and helps clients with transactional work, particularly in the technology, media and communications sectors. His clients have included Philips, Sony Computer Entertainment, Thomson Multimedia and Texas Instruments.

Justin is qualified both as a lawyer and chartered engineer, and holds a PhD in optoelectronics. He worked in satellite communications engineering before qualifying as a lawyer, and clients appreciate his technical knowledge alongside his level-headed and pragmatic approach.
