In a nutshell, we will discuss the business, law and patent prosecution realities associated with building and maintaining the portfolio your company or client needs.
This high-level, interactive, limited enrollment program will be held in person at IPWatchdog Studios, minutes from Dulles International Airport. This program will focus on the building and maintaining of a patent portfolio, whether that is the result of organically created and protected innovation, as the result of portfolio growth through M&A, or due to strategic patent portfolio acquisition. We will discuss what it means to have a “strong portfolio”, which may vary depending on company philosophy and industry. We will also discuss the difference between building and maintaining the portfolio you want versus the portfolio you need versus the portfolio you can afford. To do this we will focus on the business and budgeting necessary to build and maintain a patent portfolio worldwide, where applications should be filed and why, how to decide what to keep and what to cull, proper collaboration between in-house and outside counsel, internal invention harvesting, and strategic prosecution issues that directly relate portfolio building.
