John Hocker

John Hocker is the founder of Cybernetic Law PLLC, an intellectual property law firm in Washington, D.C.  Prior to starting his own firm, John worked as an Intellectual Property Associate at Michael Best & Friedrich, an AmLaw 200 law firm.  While there, he earned the Best Lawyers® “Ones to Watch” Intellectual Property Law award (Washington, DC) in 2022.

John started his career from 2007 to 2013, as a USPTO Examiner in a data processing art unit while earning his LLM from the George Washington University School of Law.  From 2014 – 2020, he worked as a Patent Prosecution Associate at two of the Top 10 Patent Law Firms, Oliff PLC and Sughrue Mion PLLC.

John earned his Bachelor’s of Computer Science and was inducted into the Computer Science Honor Society (ETSU). in 2003. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis School of Law and received the Cali Award (Best in Class) for Patent Law in 2007.
