Claudia Fernandini is an experienced attorney in Peru, she is admitted to the Lima Bar and is a member of the Inter-American Bar Association, the Peruvian Association of Intellectual Property, the Association of University Technology Managers AUTM and INTA. With a master’s in business administration and one in innovation projects and product development, diplomas in technology watching and agile methodologies, she specialises in intellectual property, innovation, licensing and technology transfer, start-ups and venture funding among other areas of interest.

Ms Fernandini is co-founder and general manager of Mertz Perú, where she directly handles and oversees work for clients. She helps companies develop plans to protect their innovations, creations and brand names, resulting in powerful IP assets. She has vast experience in freedom to operate reports, as well as in patent and trademark litigation, having represented some of the most prominent patent defense/invalidation and infringement cases in Peru. She also has significant experience in trade secret protection and litigation, and unfair competition litigation.

Ms Fernandini is fluent in Spanish, English and German, with a basic understanding of French, having had a multicultural upbringing and professional experience, including in Austria, Canada, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela. This unique multicultural background combined with her multidisciplinary education and more than 20 years of experience enables her to address complex issues with tenacity, efficiency and sensibility, speaking and understanding the language of entrepreneurs, researchers, universities, governments and corporations alike. She has an eye for quickly identifying opportunities and challenges in various sectors, and is able to connect experience, knowledge, contacts and opportunities.

As a result of her experience, multiple interests, relentless education vocation and active membership in various associations, Ms Fernandini has come to grow an extensive network of contacts in Peru and abroad, spanning both private and public sector, academia and civil society organisations, across gender, nationality and age.

Ms Fernandini is a published author, having prepared numerous articles and authored and co-authored books; she is also a professor at the Cayetano Heredia University in Lima.
