The Google Monopoly Ruling and the Future of Tech Competition *
A recent case Judge Amit Mehta of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia dubbed “remarkable,” the court ruled that “Google is a monopolist” and that the search engine has violated Section 2 of the Sherman Act. This panel will discuss the decision, what it means to be a monopolist, what the ruling likely means for Google, how this decision may change the landscape for high-tech competition, and what the ruling means for lawsuits filed by others, such as the recent lawsuit filed by Yelp against Google for monopolistic behavior.
