A Virtual IPWatchdog Program
Standard Essential Patents (SEP) 2027
May 17-21, 2027
Our Annual Standard Essential Patents Program is back!
Standard essential patent (SEP) licensing sits at the intersection of global commerce, territorial patent rights, and the investment that makes standardized technology possible. Who should determine the terms of a worldwide license? What evidence supports a FRAND royalty? And how should the system respond when parties cannot agree? As courts and policymakers pursue different approaches to these fundamental questions, patent owners and implementers must in real-time navigate competing expectations about compensation, access, and enforcement. The stakes extend beyond individual disputes, and affect incentives to develop technology, participate in standards, and bring connected products to market.
Join us on May 17-21, 2027 for our Sixth Annual Virtual Standard Essential Patents 2027 program that will explore the legal, economic, and commercial decisions shaping global SEP law, policy, and strategy. Through discussions with industry leaders, counsel, licensing executives, and economists, the program will examine U.S. innovation leadership, interim licensing and injunctive relief, the foundation of FRAND offers, the role of comparable licenses, and judicial approaches to licensing terms. We will also explore how patent pools and bilateral agreements fit together, how SEP licensing translates beyond handsets, and what companies should do now to position themselves for 6G and beyond. Designed for patent owners, implementers, advisers, and industry executives, the program will connect the direction of the global licensing system with the practical choices facing businesses today.
