Aligning Business Strategy with IP Strategy *
In view of the substantial costs of obtaining and maintaining Intellectual Property (IP) protection, most enterprises simply cannot afford to mindlessly seek protection for all intangible assets everywhere across the globe. Given ever-shrinking budgets and mounting pressure from the C-Suite to justify the value of IP, there is little point devoting time or resources to things that do not facilitate a business objective over the short-term or long-term.
But an optimal and comprehensive IP strategy does not magically come into being or stay fresh and relevant over time. It is essential to reevaluate an existing IP strategy to ensure it remains consistent with overall business objectives and marketplace realities.
This panel will discuss how to purposefully create and subsequently review an existing IP strategy to ensure that over time the business objectives and goals are being served. Among other things, the panel will discuss budgets, where to file, what types of protection should be sought, and how to ensure that IP portfolios do not become bloated and an unnecessary drain on resources.
