Politics, Policy and Legislation at the Intersection of Intellectual Property *
With the 2022 mid-terms behind us and the 2024 election cycle just starting, now is the time Congress actually has the opportunity to legislate. The 118th Congress looks quite different with respect to intellectual property than it has in previous years, with Congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY) exerting more influence on IP matters, and the duo of Senators Chris Coons (D-DE) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) continue to be in place in the Senate, which bodes well for the possibility of at least some pro-rights holder reforms being meaningfully discussed.
This panel will discuss the players behind the scenes that are shaping intellectual property policy in the 118th Congress. What issues and bills are currently front and center for the 118th Congress? Do any of the patent bills now pending have a chance to be enacted before the end of the 118th Congress? Is there any hope for a much-needed update to the Copyright Act?
