A Holistic Approach to Anti-Counterfeiting: Targeted IP Enforcement Throughout the Supply Chain
The COVID-19 pandemic and its attendant shutdowns of many manufacturing and processing facilities created grave supply chain disruptions which led counterfeiters to exploit supply chain weaknesses. In short, broken supply chains and strong demand combined with limited capacities of law enforcement officials to intercept the counterfeit products reshaped the market for illicit products.
With complex trade routes and increasingly sophisticated and flexible criminal networks, dealing with counterfeit goods has become a complex problem for governments and brands.
This panel will discuss the sophistication of international counterfeit operations and distribution challenges used by counterfeiters today, as well as:
1. How the “whack-a-mole” type monitoring brand owners must perform is becoming increasingly difficult, although necessary, and ways to prioritize for the biggest impact.
2. The growing problem of counterfeits in developing markets, and where geographically to focus for the biggest impact.
3. The importance of working with governmental agencies and border authorities as a part of any effective global strategy.
