Harmonizing Global IP Strategy with Short-Term and Long-Term Business Goals *

A sound intellectual property (IP) strategy, and effective execution of such a strategy, are essential ingredients for any company’s road to success. But how can one measure the efficacy of an IP strategy, and evaluate the impact and value of IP assets? While many, if not most, enterprises have an IP strategy of some sort, it is critically important to measure and evaluate the success of the strategy and determine whether it is really delivering what is necessary for both short-term and long-term goals. Enterprises that periodically take a step back to reflect on their current IP strategies, and recalibrate them if appropriate, are likely to derive the greatest possible value from IP.
