AI & Intellectual Property: A Discussion of the Legal, Technical and Business Landscape*

CLEGenerally speaking, a good working understanding for artificial intelligence by itself is the creation of the appearance of human cognition. Meanwhile, machine learning generally refers to the ability for systems to learn from input data, and to continuously improve through refinement and without additional input from the user. In the real world, however, it can be difficult to separate what is AI and what is ML.

This panel will begin with a simple question: What is the difference between AI and ML, and does it matter?

The panel will use this foundational question as a jumping-off point to lead into a broader discussion on the various practical manifestations of AI and ML, the various technical, legal, and business issues that arise when considering AI and ML, to what extent AI/ML can create and who should own those creations in order to make them investable.

Through all of this, the goal of this panel is to set the table for the conversations that will come during the program, tackling the legal issues that are or will face the industry and innovators in this space, and what are the policies driving these cutting-edge technical and legal issues.
