Julia Florence

Julia is the current President of CIPA, and until her recent retirement was a senior patent attorney at GlaxoSmithKline.
She has extensive experience of building, managing and defending IP portfolios for pharmaceutical products at all stages of development and commercialisation. More recently she has been involved in European IP policy issues.
Prior to joining GSK in 2001, Julia worked for several years at Kilburn & Strode, as well as in the former Glaxo, Wellcome and SmithKline Beecham patent departments.
She has a keen interest in education and training and served as an examiner for the European patent exams for several years. Julia served an initial 3-year term on CIPA Council in the late 90’s.
She returned to CIPA Council in 2015 and has been a member of the Patent and Life Science Committees.
