Director of IP Strategy

Netlist

Jayson Sohi is the Director of IP Strategy at Netlist.  Jayson provides clients with targeted transactional support, including creating and negotiating CapEx equipment purchase, ongoing facilities management, software license, SaaS, VAR, and source code escrow agreements. Jayson leverages his experience prosecuting and litigating patents to also creatively plan strategic alliances/partnerships, entity formation, asset protection, and intellectual property protection strategies.

Recently, Jayson took on the role of in-house counsel for an IP-focused tech incubator, where he negotiates intellectual property sale, purchase, and licensing agreements. He also helps new entities with commercial contract support, counseling to develop and monetize IP portfolios, and formation issues. He has experience creating IP capture and portfolio development plans, and helping clients plan around contractual, IP, and formation-based risks.

As a litigator, Jayson manages all aspects of his clients’ disputes, including e-discovery, fact-finding, legal analysis, case management, depositions, motion practice, arbitration, mediation, hearings, and trial. In his role as an in-house counselor, Jayson manages outside counselors to ensure fact discovery, expert discovery, briefing, negotiations (if any), and trial prep all advance in parallel to meet the goal set for each case. He supervises day-to-day matters, guides overall strategy, prepares and approves written work, and takes the lead on oral advocacy. Jayson puts clients’ interests first, and efficiently drives positive outcomes in federal district courts, the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, and before the USPTO’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

Jayson graduated in the top 10% of his law school class (cum laude), and obtained his IP & Technology Certificate with Honors. He was a national semi-finalist in the AIPLA Giles Sutherland Rich Moot Court Competition, and led USF’s Intellectual Property Law Bulletin as its Editor-in-Chief. He is admitted to practice in California and registered before the USPTO as a patent attorney. He has been named a Super Lawyers “Rising Star” each year from 2018-2021 in Southern California.

While not lawyering, Jayson enjoys participating as a NASA Solar System Ambassador, logging hours as a VFR-certified private pilot, powerlifting, and visiting national parks with his wife and two kids.
