Hon. Rainer Engles has been working as a judge in various appeal divisions at the Federal Patent Court in Munich in the field of patent and trademark law and in several nullity divisions since 1998. He has been presiding judge of the 4th Invalidity Senate there since January 2012 and retired in 2019. After studying law at the University of Tübingen and completing his legal clerkship in Stuttgart, he began his career as a judge in the civil justice system. Engels has additionally been active for many years as a trainer of patent attorney candidates in patent and trademark law; he also participates in national and international seminars.
