Andrew Weaver, Medical Devices & Mechanical Engineering Patent Prosecution Vice Chair at Polsinelli, focuses his practice on creating, enforcing and defending intellectual property rights of clients. He has extensive experience in the U.S. as well as internationally, through a network of foreign associates, making sure his clients consider and plan for the eventual international uses and legal consequences of their patents and intellectual property. Andrew has participated in the licensing and worldwide portfolio development of several clients. As part of the portfolio development, Andrew has been on location with clients in Canada, China, Israel, Japan and Sweden.

Andrew’s legal experience also includes preparing opinions, reeexaminations, reissues and derivations of electronic, software, biomedical and mechanical technologies. He has been actively involved in ex parte reexaminations, inter partes reexaminations and inter partes reviews that have been litigation driven. Patents that Andrew has prepared have gone on to be enforced in litigation proceedings. Andrew has actively participated in litigation enforcement and defense of intellectual property.

Additionally, he has served clients in a general counsel role, listening to their legal needs and bringing the collective experience of the firm to assist the client in their mission.

Before law school, Andrew earned a degree in mechanical engineering. He helped design ceramic ball valves, biomedical devices and metering systems to measure the flow of liquids and gases. He also wrote a computer program for a Fortune 500 corporation. Additionally, he taught lab courses in material science, thermal fluids and heat transfer. This background naturally informs his understanding of his clients’ current and future needs when it comes to protecting their valuable intellectual property.

In 2018 Andrew was honored and elected to membership in the Fellows of the Texas Bar Foundation. Attorneys included in the fellowship are selected from the top one third of one percent of members of the State Bar of Texas.

Andrew was ranked in 2022 by Patexia as 38 on the list of Best Performing Attorneys in Biotech.
