Alexander Roan

Alexander Roan is an intellectual property attorney and a Member at Mintz. Alex assists life sciences and technology companies of all sizes with a wide variety of domestic and foreign intellectual property matters. He regularly counsels clients on building intellectual property portfolios that strategically support business objectives and drive value. His experience covers a wide range of technologies, including medical devices, chemical processes, nanomaterials, MEMS, optics, secondary batteries, fuel cells, solar panels, consumer products, software (including artificial intelligence), manufacturing equipment, and electronics.

Alex’s practice includes the preparation and prosecution of patent applications as well as strategic patent counseling in the form of invalidity and infringement analyses, freedom-to-operate/product clearance studies, and due diligence investigations. Additionally, Alex has experience with trademark registration, post-grant proceedings, open-source code management, Standard Essential Patents (SEPs), and patent litigation, including before the US International Trade Commission. When helping clients bring new products to market, he regularly advises at the intersection of IP and regulatory, collaborating closely with Mintz’s FDA Regulatory team to integrate strategies and create efficiencies. He also advises clients on trade secret strategy/management and IP-related commercial transaction matters.
