Webinar: Can the PTAB Be Fixed? Three Perspectives on Institution Practices – Sponsored By Innovation Alliance

October 18 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EDT

Free

A centerpiece of the America Invents Act (AIA) was the creation of a new quasi-judicial administrative body — the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) — to adjudicate patent disputes. The drafters of the AIA intended the PTAB to be a cheaper and faster alternative to district court litigation. They thought that in providing that alternative, the PTAB would encourage innovation, create jobs, and generally modernize the U.S. patent system. The reality of the PTAB has proved quite different for many, some who have complained that it has become little more than a tool of harassment large companies can deploy against smaller rivals whose patents they are infringing. This webinar will provide three different perspectives on the PTAB — from a patent lawyer involved in the negotiations of the AIA, a former Federal Circuit Judge with experience interpreting and applying the AIA, and a company executive forced to defend his patents at the PTAB.

On Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at 12 PM ET, please join Dr. Marian Underweiser, an Intellectual Property Professional and former IBM Executive, Hon. Kathleen O’Malley (CAFC, ret.), currently Of Counsel with Irell & Manella, and Jayson Sohi, the Director of IP Strategy at Netlist, in a wide-ranging conversation moderated by Gene Quinn, President & CEO of IPWatchdog, Inc.
