The Full Story of IPWatchdog’s Latest Additions: Please Welcome Our Six New IPWatchPuppies!

On Saturday, February 8, 2025, IPWatchdog’s very own Chief Barking Officer and Director of Employee Enrichment, Lady Luna Bella, along with her partner, and IPWatchdog’s Director of Puplick Relations, Count Loki of Spotsylvania, along with their parents, Renée and Gene Quinn, welcomed six adorable German Shorthaired Pointers into this world. After 11 hours of labor, her puppies, three girls and three boys, were born between 3:09 PM EST and 6:53 PM EST, and ranged in size from 484 grams to 602 grams in weight.

Renée, along with her future daughter in law, Hannah Shaw, stepped in as Luna’s midwives, with Renée catching each of the puppies as they arrived and Hannah clamping and cutting their umbilical cords. Gene and their son Joe, were also an integral part in making sure the process was smooth and issue free,  by making sure Renée and Hannah had everything they needed over the 3 hours and 44 minutes it took for the puppies to arrive. For those who wish to see it first hand, we are happy to share this video of Renée and Hannah assisting Luna with the delivery of her third puppy (and first of three males).

This amazing story does not come without a sad point.  Gene and Renée took Luna to her “OBGYN” appointment on Thursday, January 30, and learned through an x-ray that Luna was expecting six puppies. Certain she was seeing seven puppies, she sent the x-ray to her sister and long time Veterinarian, who confirmed that she also only saw six puppies. Knowing how many puppies to expect helps minimize the risk of any issues.

It doesn’t, as we sadly learned, always prevent them entirely. Approximately 32 hours after giving birth to her sixth and final puppy, Luna started showing signs of going into labor for the second time. After taking her to the emergency vet hospital it was determined that Luna still had a seventh fairly large puppy in her uterus, and with the help of a shot of oxytocin was able to deliver the final puppy on her own. Sadly, however, the puppy, another female, did not survive.

Thankfully, even with this tragedy, we still have six beautiful, healthy puppies and their beautiful Momma is healthy, happy, always smiling and playful. Born completely blind and deaf, (their little ears are completely sealed and do not even have an open canal yet), it’s been so fun watching them progress.  After nearly two weeks they are finding their voices, some more than others, learning how to walk and even starting to open their eyes.  Following are many happy pictures and videos we’d like to share of our newest IPWatchPuppies throughout their first two weeks of life.

And of course, there are always adventures. At this young age, we need to keep the puppies in an environment that is about 80 degrees Fahrenheit. However, we had a power outage, and although we do have a generator, the heating unit for the room where the puppy nursery is was not on that generator. So we had to move Luna and the puppies into the family room to a temporary enclosure. The cardboard not only helped keep the puppies from getting caught in the metal of the temporary enclosure they were in but also helped keep the heat in the smaller space. We finally got power back after nearly 24 hours and they are back in the comfort of their very warm Puppy Nursery.
