Eileen McDermott Named Editor-in-Chief at IPWatchdog.com

IPWatchdog is pleased to announce that Eileen McDermott, a veteran IP and legal journalist, will become the new Editor-in-Chief at IPWatchdog.com beginning in January 2019.

Eileen is no stranger to the intellectual property world, having held editorial and managerial positions at several publications and industry organizations since she first entered the industry more than a decade ago. Most recently she has acted as editorial consultant for the International Trademark Association (INTA), chiefly overseeing the editorial process for the Association’s twice-monthly newsletter, the INTA Bulletin.

Eileen has also served as a freelance editor for the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO); as senior consulting editor for the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO) from 2015 to 2017; as Managing Editor and Editor-in-Chief at INTA from 2013 to 2016; and was Americas Editor for Managing Intellectual Propertymagazine from 2007 to 2013.

Eileen’s experience includes firsthand reporting on some of the landmark IP cases and developments of the last two decades; interviews with IP leaders in Europe, Latin America, and the United States; content planning for conferences and webinars; organizing and moderating panels and seminars; editing and reporting for conference newsletters such as the INTA Daily Newsand the AIPLA Daily Report; and ghostwriting complex content. She also provides freelance editorial consulting services, creating, editing, and managing content for legal associations, marketing companies, and law firms in Europe, Latin America, and the United States.

As Editor-in-Chief at IPWatchdog.com, Eileen will be responsible for reviewing, editing, preparing and publishing articles on IPWatchdog.com. In addition to researching, writing and conducting interviews in support of her own articles, she will set editorial priorities and have responsibility for managing our freelance journalists, as well as working with our guest authors and contributors.

“I am very excited to bring Eileen on board and expand our team,” said Gene Quinn, President & CEO of IPWatchdog, Inc, and the founder of IPWatchdog.com. “Having Eileen focusing on the day-to-day publication of articles will free me up to do more writing myself, and to also focus on expanding our course offerings and to do more free webinars, which have been a big success for us and our sponsors. It also means another pair of eyes on our content, which will only ratchet up the quality of IPWatchdog.com.”

“I am thrilled to be joining the IPWatchdog.com team and to begin a new chapter in my career,” added Eileen. “I look forward to working with Gene and Renée to contribute to the present success of IPWatchdog.com, to expand its scope and coverage, and to further develop its reputation as a trusted IP resource dedicated to providing comprehensive and sophisticated IP news to the global IP community.”

Congratulations are in order, all around.

Congratulations to Ms.McDermott and to the growing team at IPWatchdog.com. Also, to Gene for recognizing the value of delegation, a sometimes difficult understanding to achieve for a founder and thought leader, in such a position.

    Excellent! Well done!

Thank you Herb, as Gene said we are thrilled to have Eileen join us, and your comment, as well as other similar comments we have received already, just add confirmation to what we already knew, and that was that she is a perfect fit for IPWatchdog.

This is great news. My two suggestions for improvement are: 1) allow more interactive comments. Not such a delay to get a comment posted. 2) Get articles out sooner on CAFC cases. A lot of us read them right away when they are important and a delay of a week makes it seem like old news.
